I'd recommend you use shards to level your monster up on Tribal island. What i did to get lots of shards is get a bunch of Reebros on Ethereal island. Why Reebros and not any other single element monster? First it's because they're easy to get and they have a higher cap on shards rather Ghazt or Grumpyre. Second is because they're not standing so they don't block the view of other monsters like Jeeode or Humbug! I guess it's a minor incovenience(wow this word is hard to type x3) but when you have lots of monsters filling the island the problem kinda becomes more apparent lol.
